Covid-19 Local Update – January 2021

Covid-19 Hands, Face, Space – protect the NHS

Herefordshire, like the rest of England, is now in Tier 4 – stay at home and avoid contact with people outside of your household, other than to go to work (only if you cannot work from home), to shop for food or necessary medical appointments / essential medical supplies or to exercise (outdoors, within your local area).

Sadly, there have been deaths associated with Covid-19 within Ross and the surrounding area. Exact locations are not known and there is a considerable time lag, but there have been confirmed deaths in the Ross town area and in the Penyard, Llangarron & Goodrich area. There have also been a small number of deaths in neighbouring areas in Gloucestershire and Monmouth. Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of those who have succumbed to Covid-19, and we remind everyone to remain aware of the dangers posed by the virus and to take sensible measures and precautions to stay safe.

The virus is now spreading very quickly throughout the UK and you should continue to strictly adhere to the “hands, face, space” principles.

Those most at risk from the virus will be prioritized for receiving a vaccine over the coming weeks and months. Please do not contact your GP surgery to ask when you will be vaccinated. They will contact you to advise you when your vaccine is available so that you can arrange an appointment at that time.

Please check the Government website for updates and information on how the restrictions affect you, using this link

Remember – ‘Hands. Face. Space.’

Hands – wash your hands regularly and for at least 20 seconds
Face – wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet
Space – stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings)

In order to support people to remain at home the Talk Community Covid-19 helpline continues to operate for those more vulnerable residents who are unable to source support from family, friends or their local community with food supplies, medication delivery or befriending. The Talk Community helpline can also support registration for online shopping slots that have been allocated to Herefordshire with Tesco and Iceland and for CEV’s through the national system.

Please contact them or forward their contact details onto those requiring support, on 01432 260027 or email talkcommunityhelpline@herefordshire.gov.uk

The WISH website provides information on food and local suppliers. Contact NHS 111 for any urgent medication supplies.
